Effect of Budgetary Implementation on the Accessibility of Healthcare Service in Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Abuja.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of budget implementation on healthcare accessibility in FCT, with a focus on how financial resource allocation, disbursement, and utilization influence the availability and quality of health services. Despite increasing budgetary allocations to the health sector, Nigeria continues to face significant challenges in delivering equitable and accessible healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The research adopts Survey approach, primary source of data was utilized, data were collected through questionnaires. The study adopted simple percentages and descriptive statistics as methods of analysis. Findings indicated that areas with proper budget execution experienced increased healthcare accessibility, characterized by shorter distances to health facilities, availability of mobile clinics, and extended operational hours. The study identified several challenges affecting budgetary implementation in FCT’s healthcare sector. Key issues included bureaucratic delays, corruption, lack of transparency, and insufficient stakeholder engagement. The study recommended that improve budget planning, disbursement, and tracking mechanisms across the system. Implement electronic financial management systems to reduce leakages and delays in fund release.
